Meet Lauren – Founder & Candle Maker

Lauren's Roots
My story begins with the women who came before me.
As a young woman in the 1960's, my grandmother Mary worked long hours as a waitress at the Lord Nelson Hotel in downtown Halifax. One of the few professional roles open to women at the time. Determined to create a better life for her family, she saved every penny she could and opened her own business. She became one of the first women in Nova Scotia to hold a liquor license and ran a beloved Bed and Breakfast in Hubbards, Nova Scotia, long before it was common for women to hold professional licenses of any kind. With unapologetic ambition, and fierce determination she was a role model for not just me but women everywhere.
Family Legacy
My mother carried on that pioneering spirit and started her own craft business. From the day I was born, she brought me to craft fairs across Nova Scotia and the Maritimes while eventually running gift shops, showing me the value of creativity, community, and women building something meaningful from the ground up. Their legacy is the foundation of everything I create today, and it taught me early on that creativity isn’t just something you’re born with, it’s something you can build a career around.
The Birth of Burning Flame
I started Burning Flame in my kitchen during the uncertain days of 2020, when the future felt unpredictable. What began as a creative outlet quickly grew into something more. A way to continue our family tradition of craft and hospitality while bringing comfort into other people’s lives. It’s where I discovered I could turn my creativity into a purpose-driven business.
Made in Nova Scotia, loved everywhere. 🇨🇦
Every candle I pour carries a piece of this journey and the spirit of Nova Scotia. The smell of fresh ocean air, a warm kitchen, and homey moments you never forget.
