I’m Lauren, the founder and candle-maker behind Burning Flame Candle Company
Entrepreneurship runs in my blood, thanks to the ambitious women who came before me. In the 1960s, my grandmother worked as a waitress at the Lord Nelson Hotel in downtown Halifax, saving every penny with dreams of building something of her own.
She went on to run a bed and breakfast in Hubbards, holding her own liquor license at a time when few women did. Later, she bought, sold, and built homes throughout Halifax.
My mom carried that entrepreneurial spirit forward through her own craft business. From the time I was a baby, she brought me along to craft fairs across Nova Scotia and the Maritimes, where I learned the value of community, creativity, and the pride that comes from making something with your own hands.
They showed me from a young age that with hard work and determination, creating something of your own is always possible.
