I’m Lauren,

Founder and Candle-maker behind Burning Flame Candle Company. Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Entrepreneurship runs in my blood, thanks to the ambitious women who came before me. In the 1960s, my grandmother worked as a waitress at the Lord Nelson Hotel in downtown Halifax, saving every penny with dreams of one day working for herself.

She went on to run a bed and breakfast in Hubbards, holding her own liquor license at a time when very few women did. Later, she bought, sold, and built homes throughout Halifax, always finding a way to create something of her own.

My mom carried that entrepreneurial spirit forward with her own craft business. From the time I was a baby, she brought me along to craft fairs across Nova Scotia and the Maritimes eventually owning retail stores. I grew up surrounded by makers, small businesses, and people who had turned their creativity into a lifestyle.

Long before I understood what entrepreneurship was, I was living it.

These women taught me the value of hard work, creativity, community, and the pride that comes from building something with your own hands. Years later, when I poured my first candle, I never imagined it would turn into a business. But looking back now, I think a little bit of this was always in me.
